Time Working

8 hours, 8-Channel Installation, DV / 2015

director, camera & editor

Time Working is an eight-channel, eight hour video installation featuring eight people as they work in small scale fabrication jobs in the Southern California region. Ranging from building cabinets to using a CNC Waterjet Cutter, Time Working documents the repetitive, manual, and methodical work these eight individuals perform on a daily basis. Utilizing long takes and minimal editing, Time Working frames how work can be understood by critiquing the duration of the moving image.

This project also features an interview book, conducted with each participant about their thoughts about their job, retirement, and the skills needed to perform their work.
